University of The Netherlands recordings

Digi Juridica has been invited by the University of The Netherlands to attend the recording of their lectures on December 10th at 20:00h, in Club AIR in Amsterdam. If you haven’t heard of them, the University of The Netherlands records short lectures by all sorts of scientists, which they provide on the internet and with their podcasts. The lectures are recorded with a live audience, which we’ll be attending.
During the night five different scientists will give 20 minute presentations on a variety of topics. The topics that will be discussed are as follows:

What are the global poor doing online? 

How can we detect victims of human trafficking?

What is the risk of saying your choices out loud? 

Why are anorexia patients not able to judge their body size? 

Female Action Heroes.

TechLAWlogy Talk #2: The evolution of money in the digital age

On Thursday 28 November, from 13:00h until 15:00h
we will have the first TechLAWlogy Talk organized by the International Committee! In this event we are going to have the opportunity to receive a lecture by European Central Bank Adviser Mr. Wiebe Ruttenberg followed by an open discussion. Mr. Ruttenberg will discuss the ever-changing concept of money in the lecture titled “The Evolution of Money in the Digital Age.”

Some topics will be virtual currencies, Facebook’s Libra and how to deal with these. How will society respond to the development of money? Will the European Central Bank, at some point, get involved in the issuance of digital currency? One thing is certain – doing nothing is not an option.

Registration for the study trip has openend!

As announced during the borrel, Digi Juridica’s first study trip will take place in: Lisbon!
The trip will be from the 3rd until the 7th of February and will only cost €250 euros.
This will at least cover:
– Flights
– Stay
– 1x Dinner
– Office visits and activities

Besides a couple of study related activities, we will also spend time discovering the highlights of Lisbon. Think of visiting museums and international law firms, Portuguese delicacies and softly priced drinks. Do you want to be one of the 25 students to partake in this memorable trip? The first period of the year hast passed, which means it’s about time for a borrel. The passed weeks de study trip committee has been working on planning out DigiJuridica’s first study trip and cannot wait to share all the details with you. That’s why the committee will finally share the destination of the trip during the borrel.

The event will take place on Monday the 4th of November at 17:30 o’clock. This time we will have our drinks at Market33 (5 min. walk from VU/Boelelaan). This venue offers plenty of food choices and we will provide you with a free drink. Sounds good, right? We hope to see you all there. Cheers!

P.S. the Study trip committee already has a small hint about the desination: the temperature is somewhat higher than here in the Netherlands..

Last year the first collaboration between ITL and Digi Juridica, TechLAWlogy Talk, started as an initiative from Magdalena Jozwiak. Because of the big success, the lecture series will continue this year.

The first Talk will take place on September 19th and will be given by Professor Andrew Murray from the London School of Economics, where he will discuss the topic: “Why Don’t More People Break the Law (Online)?” During this lecture he will attemp to answer the question: “Why do we recognise and comply with laws in a space where identification of law-breakers is time consuming and costly (mitigating enforcement risks) and where mass disobedience is possible?”.  

The Talk will start at 4 PM and will take place at the VU campus in room HG 12A33.

The international committee is the newest committee of our association that will see to more involvement/engagement of the international students in Digi Juridica and all its activities. The committee gets a lot of freedom in the activities that they want to organise. You could think of visits to companies focussed on technology and law, startups, guest lectures or a visit to the EU Examples of activities would be visiting startups/companies focused on technology, cryptocurrencies and blockchain, the Peace Palace or the European Parliament in Brussels.
